If you're considering building a new home, and you want to have it wired for a home LAN, what kind of cabling/ports do you want to ask the builder to install? I'm pretty sure an Ethernet network (Cat wiring of some kind) is the way to go, but I wouldn't know how to spec it to a builder that's not done this before.

Personally, I think an Exchange server on a home LAN is a bit of over kill, but... If you simply want to share a single email account setup each machine to leave mail on the server. One client, however, should be configured to act as the "master" and have the ability to remove messages from the server after X days.
